Gnomes

Gnomes are elemental beings specifically associated with the earth element and are mentioned by Paracelsus. These small, earthy spirits can take various forms and sizes, often described as people of slight stature. Gnomes have a unique connection to the terreous ether, a substance close in vibratory rate to the material earth, conferring them immense power over rocks, flora, and mineral elements in both the physical and non-physical realms. According to legend, they are guardians of treasures, minerals, and precious stones, playing a significant role in the development of veins of ore and the care of animal and human bones within the mineral kingdom.

In the physical plane, gnomes can clash with salamanders, a contradiction that highlights the dynamic nature of elemental interactions. Despite this, gnomes are described as living spirits, one of the four elements of the earth, and can be incarnated, suggesting a deep connection between their elemental nature and the physical world. While terrestrial spirits, gnomes populate the terrestrial elements, embodying the essence of the earth and its minerals. Overall, gnomes are manifold entities, combining the mystical, protective, and elemental roles in the natural and supernatural world. Gnomes are a main division of Nature spirits and include several subtypes of gnomes that have specific tasks

II. Paracelsus & Pentagram

The Pentagram, a five-pointed star emblem, played a significant role in Paracelsus's mystical and alchemical teachings, often symbolizing divine protection and spiritual qualities. In Paracelsian practice, the operations involving the Pentagram go beyond its mystical representation. According to Paracelsus, these operations can also serve a practical purpose in measuring the proportions of the Athanor—a crucial component in the creation of alchemical substances for the Great Work. The Great Work, in alchemy, refers to the transmutation of base metals into gold or the creation of the philosopher's stone, a legendary substance capable of numerous alchemical transformations. The Athanor, in this context, is the alchemical vessel or furnace used for various transformations, and its precise measurements and properties are essential for the successful accomplishment of the Great Work. Thus, Paracelsus's description and explanation of the Pentagram are integral to the alchemical practices associated with the Athanor and the Great Work, illustrating the sympathy of mystical symbols and practical alchemical techniques in his philosophical system.
